Dealing with PTSD at Home
ACVOW is a charitable provider which recruits combat veteran volunteers to mentor, coach and support our warriors in the conversion from combat, helping them and their families to lead fruitful and gratifying lives. As many of our warriors get back from battle, they are met with new mental health conflicts in the form of combat stress. Without addressing their combat stress, veterans our warriors find it difficult when it comes time to adjust to a peaceful world, impacting both their education and employment opportunities. When treating PTSD , compared to a great number of mental health professionals, ACVOW likes to leave out the “D”, which represents the word disorder. The volunteers of ACVOW believe combat stress isn’t a disorder, but a normal reaction to a very uncommon event.ACVOW was initially created in early 2001 to help Vietnam veterans who were still battling with post traumatic stress, or combat stress. Their unique element is its combat veteran volunteers that have the completely unique understanding of understanding what our warriors experienced. Right now, many ACVOW volunteers are making an effort to coach and assist warriors from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
